The Perfumers Guild's portfolio of strictly private clients is usually highly confidential. However a special exception was made for Scent of Romance. Many years ago John Bailey read a feature in a national newspaper in which Dame Barbara Cartland declared: Perfumes of today are rubbish by comparison with yesteryear, they just don't last! Well, the gauntlet had been thrown and, following some interesting correspondence, John was invited for afternoon tea with the illustrious Dame Barbara, a catalyst for a friendship over many years.
Scent of Romance was created especially for Dame Barbara, initially for her personal use and then as a means of fundraising for her charities, a concept which meant publicity on a grande dame scale!
The fragrance has an emphasis of floral notes with spicy tones and features Dame Barbara's favourite flowers, carnations, together with a fresh, radiant fusion of rose, orange blossom, jasmine and ylang ylang. Scent of Romance is reminiscent of a bygone era of vintage classic fragrance. It captures perfectly the spirit of the world's best selling romantic novelist and stepgrandmother of the late Diana, Princess of Wales. This perfume could not remain a secret and with tacit agreement of the great lady herself is now available for all to enjoy.
